Updates : Chali Chali Re Patang is now re-titled to Yeh Khula Aasman starring Raghuvir Yadav, Raj Tandon & Aanya Anand in lead roles. Music of Anand-Milind in this film will be remembered & cherished by people for a long time, says writer & director Gitanjali Sinha. "Once the audio of the movie is out, we will not leave any stone unturned. The music of YKA will be heard everywhere and with the support of everyone associated with this film, we will make it a huge success for sure", says Gitanjali. Up till now, this film has already been screened at 6 international film festivals all across the globe in which it has won two awards. So a great film is definitely on the cards.

Aaranca Creations, a young independent production house based out of Mumbai, has recently announced the launch of its first film, Yeh Khula Aasman in Hindi. Movie is written and directed by Gitanjali Sinha who has been in media industry since childhood. The film is inspired from a true story about the resilience of human spirit and how it prevails over life's challenges if family support systems are in place, says Sinha. To be shot in Mumbai and on parts of Northern Bihar, the film is expected to go on floors by mid-October & is expected to screen around mid-January, next year.

Famous music directors Anand-Milind have been roped in to compose the melodious music that the audience has been deprived of for last few years. Veteran character actor Raghuveer Yadav has put his best voice on the tunes of melodious composer duo Anand-Milind which has been the icing on the cake. The other singers who have put their voice to make the compositions more delightful are Alka Yagnik, Javeed Ali & Swapnil Bandodkar.

Anand-Milind, is believed to have produced scintillating scores for this project and feels that this project ranks amongst their best compositions. “We have already recorded four songs and will launch the music soon,” said Sinha. The producer Hemendra Aran is B.Tech. from IIT Madras and M.B.A from London Business School and founder and CEO of reputed KPO firm, Aaranca. Amongst other members of the production crew includes, Ajit Dandekar - Renowned Art Director, Ullhas Shewde - Veteran Executive Producer & Saurabh Saxena - Cameraman.

30th October, 2009: Yeh Khula Aasman, the first film of independent production house, Aaranca Creations, has gone on floors on October 30 in Bhagalpur, Bihar. The Muhurat shot featured veteran character actor Raghuvir Yadav, who plays a key role in the film.

The film marks the return of Raghuvir Yadav to the silver screen, with one of his meatiest of roles in the recent times. “The moment I heard the script and my role, I knew I wanted to do it,” said Yadav.

Yeh Khula Aasman also marks the return of music directors duo Anand-Milind after a brief hiatus. In a recent interview, they portrayed their work in this film as the return of melodious era in Hindi Cinema.

A young but talented new lead pair, Raj Tandon and Aanya Anand, are being launched in this film.

Taking time out from in-between shooting, Writer-Director Gitanjali Sinha said, “Yeh Khula Aasman is shaping exactly as I had envisioned it. We are lucky to have such a talented cast and crew. I am sure this film will be worth every minute for the audience.” She added, “People will remember the music of Yeh Khula Aasman for long time to come.”

The movie is being shot on various locations in Bhagalpur and is expected to be released in August 2011.

GG: How many songs are there in the album?
AM: Five tracks, with good poetry, good music. We have given melodious music.
GG: Tell us something about the album?
AM: One song is the title track, picturised on a Kite competition sung by Raghubirji, second is lorie sung by Suresh Wadekar. Third is a philosophical song of life sung by Kunal Ganjawala. This song is related to the story. The rest two are romantic tracks.
GG: Who are the other singers?
AM: Alka Yagnik, Soham, Bela Shinde, Amay Daate.
GG: Did you face any problems in giving music in film with different subject?
AM: No, we enjoyed composing music. Secondly music differs according to subject.
GG: What is the USP of the album?
AM: We have given such music that will grow. The more you hear, more you will enjoy.
GG: You have given music in lots of films, which is your favorite?
AM: ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak’ as it was first hit album of our career.
GG: Who are your favorite singers?
AM: Mohammad Rafi and Lata Mangeshkar.
GG: What is your take on reality shows?
AM: In reality shows we get many talented singers. They get huge platform through the show. Such shows benefit them. They come from no where but at least they earn something doing stage shows and albums after the reality show is over.

Melody Makes a Definite Comeback

It has been a while since music of Pitrashish Films Pvt Ltd's bengali venture 'Tomaye Bhalobashi' was launched but the lack of an authentic music review prompted me to code it down for the music lovers.

Ironically these days anything related to big star cast catches one's attention quickly coupled with the huge investments that is spent on its promotion but this film definitely lacked the star power to give it the much needed initial thump & to top it up, not adequate step was taken to promote it's music. Apart from veteran director Sujit Guha & music maestros, Anand-Milind who debuted first time in bengali films, the leading pair along with the production team was primarily fresh & new. So the onus of this film was solely lying on its music. And to no one's disappointment the music came out really good.

There are altogether five tracks in this film & apart from one item number which I guess was a forced choice to please the frontbenchers, remaining four tracks are worth talking.

The album starts with the song, 'Happy Birth Day' by Shaan & Monali Thakur. It may sound a bread butter birth anniversary tune but the composers did a splendid job with the rhythm & sound without loosing out on the melody. If the mukhda is good then the antaras are even better. Over all the listener doesn't get bored. A nice peppy melodious number to begin with.

It follows with the title track of the album, 'Tomaye Bhalobashi' by Javed Ali & Sadhana Sargam. The way the track begins with an alaap from Javed Ali, you at once get yourself tuned to this one. The tune is simple, hummable & the sound treatment is soothing. The tune actually grows on you. The more you listen to it, the more you tend to like it. Overall a nice title track. Good to hear Sadhana Sargam after a prolonged gap.

The follow up track is 'Ore Road Romeo' by Shaan & June Banerjee. It is a typical song where the female protagonist tries to teach lessons of eve teasing to its counter part. The song has been very well penned by Goutam Susmit & the tune is very peppy & simple. The rhythm reminds us glimpses of 'Papa Kehte Hain' from QSQT. The antaras sound more melodious than the mukhda. Good melody superbly backed up by nice orchestration keeps this track interesting & tight.

The song now coming up in the list springs up surprise & glare to your eyes, the moment it starts with an alaap by Kunal Ganjawala. It has got a soothing touch & is ably supported by Rima Mukherjee. The song goes like, 'Dheere Dheere Chand Uthlo Hese'. If you are a vivid music lover & crave for good melody, then this is it. Each & every aspect of the track is worth mentioning right from its composition to the arrangement & the sound. It has got all the qualities to hit the charts & sustain its position for a longer period of time as good romantic melodies are very seldom these days as compared to the new age techno sound which very effortlessly takes away the heart from a song.

When you have got all the flavors of melody so far, you expect another one for sure to follow the suit but to everyone's demise the concluding track, 'Emon Chuma Debo Raja', is an out & out item stuff cooked to fulfill the commercial interest of the movie. It has got raunchy lyrics throughout & is rendered by Kalpana Patowary. It will surely encourage lots of whistles from a special segment of the crowd inside the theater much to the producers delight.

Overall Anand-Milind as composers haven't disappointed their fans by producing a fantastic album which has got four different shades of melody. The album has got the effervescence of romance personified with soothing charm which will slowly grow on you for sure. The composers have brilliantly worked on the sound & all the playback singers have justified the tunes by their effortless singing. A good beginning of coarse for the duo in their debut film. In one word, an album worth buying.

Synopsis

It's a musical funny-romantic thriller. The story revolves round two young college students. Avi (Kunaal) a simple fun loving guy, falls in love with naughty Tina (Jhilik), who is cute, sweet & bubbly. Incidentally she is the daughter of the city police chief. The story begins with a small fight between Tina & Avi & in further coarse of time they fall in love. Things change completely when Avi gets into trouble. Rana, a batch mate of Avi makes all the wrong moves. Then there is this twist of tale. How a love story converts into an action thriller & progresses thereafter is a question that will have its answers on 31st of August, when the film is going to release.

Incidentally the movie has got some of the best & excellent melodious tracks of recent times composed by QSQT fame hit duo, Anand-Milind from Mumbai who are debuting first time in bengali commercial cinema. "Since we got the offer, we agreed to do this film as composing for a bengali film was never a proposition from our end", said composer Anand. "We have earlier seen some of the songs on internet & that's how we got to know the trend of music in bengali cinema", expressed Milind, other half of the duo. "We have tried to keep the tracks interesting without loosing out on melody. We are happy that fans have started to like our effort", said Anand without much ado.

"I was a huge admirer of the duo right from my childhood & it feels great that Anand & Milind have composed for my debut film", as told by Jhilik, the leading lady of this film when asked about her opinion about the Mumbai based composers. The film is all set to release by the end of August on the eve of Eid & all the cast & crew has their fingers crossed regarding its success at the box office.

Audio Release Function - A Report

On 18th of this month, audio release function of forthcoming bengali film, Tomaye Bhalobashi held at South City Mall, Kolkata. Incidentally this is the first film that composer duo Anand Milind have composed for a bengali film. "Since we got the offer, we agreed to do this film as composing for a bengali film was never a proposition from our end", said Anand. "We have earlier seen some of the songs on internet & that's how we got to know the trend of music in bengali cinema" said Milind. "All the songs have been composed keeping melody intact which is our forte. Hope the audience likes it here" said the duo before signing off.

Directed by Sujit Guha, the film introduces new pair Kunaal & Jhilik for the first time in Tollywood industry. Said the new actor on the block, "The music by Anand-Milind is very melodious. We had shot for a birthday song with Shakti Kapoor and the rest of the cast in Kolkata. It was a blast shooting with all." The occasion was boosted by the presence of Anand-Milind from Mumbai. Apart from the leading pair & director Sujit Guha, eminent personalities like Biplab Chatterjee, Dolan Roy and many others from the film and music fraternity graced the occasion. Sudipta Chanda, ace columnist of English daily, The Statesman, speaks to Anand & Milind, on the eve of 54th birth anniversary of Anandji (21st December). This interview is all about their long journey in Bollywood so far. In this feature, Sudipta has captured some of the untapped sides of Anand Milind, the very first time. Childhood…
Milind: Anand (1957) and I (1959) were born at Kashibai Hospital in Santacruz, Mumbai. My father was the ace music composer Chitragupt who had studied journalism and economics. We have two sisters… Savita, the eldest of them, was a teacher while Sudha is the head of Geography department at Mumbai University. Anand has a diploma in business management and I’ve studied psychology and sociology (MA).

Early days…
Milind: Father was always busy with music. I still remember the song Chali Chali Re Patang from Bhabi becoming a hit. In 1974 he suffered a paralytic attack. And gradually he started taking less work. We accompanied him to recordings. Then he got films like Toofan Aur Bijli, Adventure of Aladdin and a number of Bhojpuri films, including hits like Laagi Nehin Chhoten Raam in which we assisted him. Dad used to compose the mukhda and we worked on the arrangement.

Growing up with music…
Anand: I preferred listening to old songs on All India Radio. I like music from the 1950s and 1960s. Composers like SD Burman and Salil Chowdhury were great.
Milind: Dad had a good collection of 78rpm records. I am a fan of Laxmikant-Pyarelal, OP Nayyar, Shankar-Jaikishan, C Ramchandra and SD Burman.

Early lessons…
Milind: I am a guitarist while Anand is a great pianist. Assisting dad on his projects was a learning experience. Dad made us accompany Datta Davjekar, the ace composer from the Marathi music industry, who gave Lataji her debut song in Marathi. Finally, I joined Anup Jalota on his musical shows. I accompanied him on the guitar.

The big break…
Milind: Pankaj Parashar who worked with us on a number of ads, offered us our debut film Ab Ayega Mazaa in the 1980s. Before that we did Shakti, a docu-film with him. Interestingly, only Anand Shrivastav got the credit for the music. Then we landed up in Ab Ayega Mazaa.

The first song …
Milind: It was Raja Tere Raste Se... rendered by the one and only Lata Mangeshkar… recorded at Famous Studio. More than 100 musicians were employed and Rs 9,280 was the payment made to the musicians. Lataji is very close to our family. This was Sameer’s debut film as lyricist.

Idols….
Anand: I am a fan of SD Burman, Salilda, and Kishoreda was close to dad.
Milind: I like Rafisaab the most.

Nasir Hussain Films…
Milind: Ajay, the son of composer Ravi, knew Mansoor Khan. Mansoor was looking for a composer for his docu-film Umberto. We met him through Ajay and composed music for the film. Nasirsaab heard all the tracks and offered us Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. He had one condition. The lyricist will be Majrooh Sultanpuri.

Uniqueness…
Milind: We always look for a balanced sound, be it rhythms or instruments. We use a lot of Indian flutes, played by Ronu Mazumder, Hariprasad Chaurasia and Rakesh Chaurasia.
Anand: The use of flute plays a key element in our music. For the saxophone and English flute we had Manoharida and Shyam Raj.

Favourite voices…
Anand: It all depends on the requirements of any song. Recently we have worked with Soham, Ritu Pathak, June Banerjee and Abhijeet (one of our all-time favorite). Even Amit Kumar rendered some of the most challenging numbers for us. We experimented with Sanu’s voice on Main To Rastey Se Ja Rahan Tha.
Milind: Initially Amit Kumar offered us great songs. Gradually we used Uditji, Sanu, besides Alka, Sadhna, Anuradha, Kavita and Poornima.

Non-film ventures…
Anand: There were jingles for Pankaj Parashar and Mukul Anand. Then we did private albums with Sharan Prabhakar. We composed songs for Laal Dupatta Mal Mal Ka for Gulshan Kumar which was used in a film much later.

Anecdotes…
Anand: We were about to record the song Ae Mere Humsafar when bees entered the studio. We had to stop recording. It was finally recorded at midnight!

Music assistants…
Anand: Initially we had Anil Mohile and then Prakash Verma. Then came UK Dubey, one of the finest rhythm players who is still working with us. In Yeh Tera Ghar Yeh Mera Ghar we had Babloo Chakraborty as arranger, besides Roshni.

Favourite tracks…
Milind: I like slow romantic numbers like Aa Bahon Mein Aa (Mahasangram).
Anand: Aake Teri Bahon Mein (Vaansh), Ankhon Mein Bandh Kar Loon (Sangdil Sanaam), Baadi Mushkil Hai (Anjaam), Ghazab Ka Hai Din (Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak)…

Copycats…
Anand: It’s sad that we had to copy songs on the request of few producers. Dhak Dhak Karne Laga, which was originally an Ilayaraja composition, was rendered by Amit Kumar and Kavita.

New-age tunes…
Anand: The industry doesn’t have too many good songs to offer these days. Now it’s all about rhythm.

What’s next?
Anand: Times Music has come up with a devotional album, Salasar Balaji. While films like Tum Hi To Ho, Yeh Khula Asmaan and Mad Lover are in the pipeline.
